Spanish Lessons

Whether you have no Spanish experience or have studied the language for years, Otra Cosa Network now offers Spanish lesson packages that will benefit all skills and levels.  This is a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of your time in Peru to learn a second language.  This will not only enrich your volunteering experience in Peru, but also, given that Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world, you will gain language skills to benefit to you for years to come.

In order for our volunteers to gain the best experience possible and for our projects to be a success, we encourage all volunteers with basic or no Spanish skills to take up classes either in Huanchaco, or from home before you arrive.  This will ensure that you can participate as effectively as possible in your chosen project.  For volunteers with some Spanish skills, lessons are also a good opportunity to learn about the local Peruvian dialect and regionalisms.

Classes are available on a one to one basis or in pairs, however please note that these are only available when students with a similar level of Spanish can be matched.  There is even an option to start preparing for your trip in advance, by taking lessons via Skype.

Meet our teacher Sam, who we, and more importantly, our volunteers are happy to recommend.

Originally from deepest Wales, Sam studied science at the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK.  Spanish had been a past-time of his from age 18, working from a Teach Yourself book, and then taking a course as part of his university studies.  He then pursued his studies independently, both through conversation with Spanish friends and reading as much as possible covering a broad range of material.

As someone who has been a student of the language he understands the needs and issues of learners. Also, Sam is able to clarify and explain key concepts in English in order to increase student performance and understanding.  Furthermore, his ten years of teaching experience have given him a systematic, professional approach to the organization and delivery of teaching material.

Sam´s experience of Perú goes back four years. He is very familiar with the culture and the history of this developing country.  Taking classes here with him are a great opportunity to not only improve your Spanish skills but also to learn about the culture of this fantastic country.

Otra Cosa Network can offer a discount of 10 to 15% on all bookings made through our website compared to local hourly rate prices here in Perú.  Our current prices for packages of 20 hours of Spanish classes and 10 hours of classes via Skype are listed below and you can book multiples of these to provide longer packages on request.

Payment for classes can be made in advance through our website, PayPal or to our UK bank account; however, we ask that you do not send any payment for your classes until you receive confirmation of availability.  Alternatively, payment can be in cash (Soles) upon arrival in Peru.
