Fiesta del Mar - Huanchaco: 14 – 17th of May
The Fiesta del Mar reenacts the legendary arrival of Takaynamo, founder of the city of Chan Chan, on his reed Cabelito de Tortura boat from the ocean. During these days Huanchaco is home for Surfing and Dance Competitions, Cultural Conferences. It also gives you the chance to taste the local food and swing your hips to local music.
International Spring Festival - Trujillo: 20 -30th September 2004
The "Fiesta International de la Primavera", as the International Spring Festival is locally known, has been organized in Trujillo for the last 50 years! The city is filled with dancing competitionsand shows of the famous Caballos de Paso (pacing horses) and many other cultural activities. And that's going on for a whole week!
Fiesta de la Marinera - Huanchaco: 20-30th January
The Fiesta de la Marinera in Huanchaco is a week-long festival filled with shows of the typical coastal folkloric dance.
Virgin de La Puerta - Otuzco – 15th December
Each 15 th of December is the pilgrimage to the shrine of the Virgin de La Puerta in nearby Otuzco (2 hours by bus) at 2600 meters above sea level.
Carnaval Huanchaquero – 1st Feb – 5th March
As in the rest of South America, also in Huanchaco, Carnaval is celebrated BIG! Celebrate carnaval at the beach under the shining sun, the way it should be celebrated!
